Ending the Silence (For 11th & 12th Graders)
A Special Program Addressing the Mental Health Crisis in Young People with Rabbi Andrea Goldstein and Helena Cooper, Director of Youth Engagement
Dear 11th and 12th Graders and Parents,
We imagine that many of you are aware of the mental health crisis that has been escalating on almost every college campus in the country over the past few years. Since the terror attacks of October 7, 2023 and rising antisemitism on college campus, Jewish students have been at even greater risk.
As you are beginning to think more seriously about your futures and the possibility of attending university in the fall of 2025 or 2026, we have invited professionals from NAMI St. Louis to lead two parallel programs â one for specifically designed for 11th and 12th graders and one specifically designed for parents â to help everyone prepare for these exciting and often anxiety-provoking transitions.
These sessions will include information on:
- Warning signs that someone is need of mental health support
- Facts and myths about mental health and young people
- For students: how to reach out for help for oneself or a roommate or friend
- For parents: how to talk to your children about their mental health and how to work with school staff
Dinner and the programs are open to all Shaare Emeth families with 11th and 12th grade students. If you have friends who are not members of Shaare Emeth who would also like to attend the program, please contact Rabbi Goldstein at agoldstein@sestl.org to see if there is space.
There is no charge for dinner or the program, but registration is required. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. To guarantee your spot, please register by Wednesday, November 13th.
We are grateful to a grant from the Jewish Federation of St. Louis for making this program possible. We hope to see you on Monday, November 18th for this very important evening of gathering and learning.
Lâshalom,
Rabbi Andrea Goldstein and Helena Cooper
